Two small items of news this week (I am technically on holiday!) but one of these is time-sensitive.
\r\nFirst, this Thursday or Friday, there may be a limited release of vinyl copies of The Second Bite, dependent on a stock check. These are otherwise totally sold out, so this may be a final opportunity to obtain them, straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak.
\r\nSecond, new Fluke merchandise has dropped! These consist of a set of t-shirts with the Designers' Republic font for \"Absurd\", \"Atom Bomb\", \"Bullet\", \"Freak\", and \"Groovy Feeling\". The colour scheme follows the cover of The Second Bite and the font is, perhaps, an acquired taste. Nonetheless, if you want to walk around with a t-shirt bearing the text \"Freak\" (I do!), then this is the place for you.
\r\nThere is also, fresh in the merchandise store, a The Second Bite screen print. The font is deliberately cryptic:

The screen print is a strictly limited edition hand-numbered screen print: LP design printed with custom Pantone inks/metallics. 500 mm x 700 mm Avorio Classic Ivory 250 gsm, acid-free Italian printmaking paper. Debossed with brass TDR™40 series info: FLUKE × THE DESIGNERS REPUBLIC.
\r\nI should warn that the print is pricey. I am not denying that lots of work undoubtedly went into its design and production. But £100 is quite a lot for all but the most dedicated fans. Nonetheless, this is certainly an item for the hardcore collectors (again, like me).
\r\nThere is also a discount, at the moment, on the \"Insanely Beautiful\" merchandise.

The interview details the band's history, including the formation of 2 Bit Pie. The back cover of the issue features a full-page advertisement for Fluke's The Second Bite.

The resource itself is locked for download, as we don't want to tread on the toes of the publisher. However, this was an interesting read -- especially with respect to the rights situation on The Second Bite and remaking the tracks from scratch.

The fan demand for all this is so strong that the Fluke Bandcamp site completely sold out of the 2x12\" Vinyl.
\r\nBut who are we, running this site? We are the team behind the now-defunct 2bitpie.net, a historic fan site for all things Fluke, 2 Bit Pie etc. This site is run by Martin Eve and jUSTIN cREDIBLE. We are two longstanding Fluke fans who want to share our musical excitement with others.
\r\nMore posts about the band when we get them, but more info about the new site first. We are working to get our download resources back online, all with proper metadata, so they're easy to sort and find. We are also working to build a comprehensive discography, which you can see by clicking the link at the top of the site. At the moment, there are problems with the discography. In particular, we have some duplicate entries in many releases. We are working through these to ensure accuracy and remove duplicates. This will take some time, though.
\r\nWe also, thanks to an act of extreme generosity, have permission to host an archival version of Marcolphus's Fluke Discography, which covers Fluke activity up to 2005.
\r\nWe hope, here, to be able to present the latest news on Fluke and their musical collaborations. We are also working on restoring the news/blog post archive back to 2006, a ridiculous 20 years ago now. So we will have some form of chronicle.
\r\nThis has been a great week for Fluke with new music in the air. It's a great week for fans, who love any new Fluke material. And it's a great week for us, being able to relaunch the fan site.

\r\nThings we learned:
\r\nAn update comes in from the brand-spanking-new Facebook page for Jon Fugler of two collaborations. The first is with Sander Kleinenberg and features Jon F. on vocals. The track is called “We-R-Superstars” and can be purchased on Beatport! Long-time fans will well-remember past collaborations between the pair, such as “The Fruit”.
\r\nEdit June 2026: the Sander K collaboration seems never to have materialised and Jon's vocals are not on the track.
\r\nThe second piece of news is that Jon Fugler is currently establishing a new band called “TAC”, in which he will be joined by Chris Willis and Jon Farmer. The first album from the group will be released this year while the trio are also playing some gigs in the coming weeks (details when available; nothing seems to have yet been released on that front).
\r\nWith thanks to a tip-off from Cory Eling, it seems that Jan Burton, who works with Mike Tournier, has just uploaded a cover of Joy Division’s atmosphere.
\r\n\r\nAs you’ll hear, the piece is one of their gentler numbers. A copy of the video can also be found here for archival purposes.
\r\nAmong the rarest of the rare Fluke materials, there are two categories: “hard to find” and “does it really exist?” The “Island Life” vinyl, for example, falls in the former of these categories. In the latter, there’s the “Amp” single, supposedly unreleased (or only released in Australia, according to some variants of the story). The single is so rare that there isn’t even a catalogue entry for it on Marcolphus’ Fluke Discography.
\r\nThe presumed tracklist has been given, however, as:
\r\nToday, however, we are pleased to be able to put this rumour to rest. These are, indeed, the correct tracks (albeit named “Geographic Long Mix” and “Geographic Edit” from our source).
\r\nEven better, though, we’ve also been given permission in writing, by Mike Tournier of Fluke (and thanks to the persistence of jUSTIN cREDIBLE), to make the single available for download. To that end, and without further ado, we proudly present: Fluke – Amp (Single). Enjoy!
\r\nMike Tournier’s current project, Anaxaton6 (formed with Barry Andrews, a founder of Shriekback), has just released its latest video, for a sort of dark-funk-electronic track “No Fool Boletus”. The video is also somewhat offbeat! Check it out below. The resources section also hosts an archival version.
\r\n\r\nWith enormous thanks to Libby Lawes, we’re very pleased to present an extremely long (1 hour 35 mins) interview with Mike Tournier of Fluke, Syntax (edit June 2026: abandoned name for trademark reasons) and, more recently, Anaxaton6.
\r\nIn the interview, Mike discusses the history of doing interviews as Fluke, on collaborations, on his collaboration with Mike Tournier, what it’s like in his working day, on contemporary synthesizers and even some positive commentary on 2bitpie.net itself!

\r\nMike Tournier’s latest project, teaming up with Shriekback, has posted a video to its YouTube feed. The track, titled JuJu Grid (Go Live) has a suitably mad video and is a definitely more funky direction than his darker work with Jan Burton!

Long-time Fluke fan Holden from the Hybridized forum writes with news of an epiphany moment that he had for a mash-up:
\r\n\r\n\r\nIt’s a mash-up of Fluke’s “Absurd” (Headrillaz dub mix) and The Crystal Method’s “Trip Like I Do”. I have always enjoyed these tracks for their very energetic/aggressive sounds. Recently i was running with shuffle on and heard the tracks back to back – seemed to me that with a bit of editing and pitchshifting, plus some extra beats to hold it together, the main electro lines would compliment each other.

The result is pretty great and you can download it in the resources section!
\r\nWell, there’s some big news over at their official site that I’ll replicate here:
\r\n\r\n\r\nFirstly, many apologies for the lack of information since the original announcement earlier this year. Due to various other commitment issues, we have only just managed to get things moving with ‘TRIPOLAR’.
\r\nWe decided, in the end, to release the new album ‘TRIPOLAR’ as a series of three EPs on our own label, Pandephonium. EP 1 is being promoted to press and radio now, but we have taken the slightly unusual step to make it available to download at the same time. It can be purchased from all the usual outlets, including iTunes and Amazon.
\r\nA full list of sellers can be found here. Please note that the ‘purchase’ buttons on the website do not work. You will have to visit the seller’s site directly.

\r\nEP 1 contains the tracks: The Man With No Name (Radio Edit), The Man With No Name (Full length version), Zero Vision, Thorns & Roses and Pennies & Change.
\r\n‘The Man With No Name’ is a sonically more refined mix of the version we have been previewing on the website. ‘Thorns & Roses’ is a recent mix of the original slow version of the track. ‘Zero Vision’ and ‘Pennies & Change’ are new tracks that have never been previewed before.
\r\nA release for Ep 2 is planned for early next year followed by EP 3 a few months later.

Over on the official Mike Tournier/Jan Burton site, there’s been a goodie dump of some of the extras that never made it onto Meccano Mind; definitely worth checking out! From the official site:
\r\n\r\n\r\nWe have added a new album category to the audio section, entitled “Meccano Mind Extras”. This contains a few tracks that were never used on “Meccano Mind”.
\r\nThe album version of “Little Love” was actually the original demo that myself (Mike Tournier), Jan Burton and co-producer Tim Gordine created. Despite having done a mix with legendary producer/engineer Dave Bascombe and another, with the fantastic Michael Fayne as engineer, the record company were insistent on using the demo. The mix in the extras album is the one created with Michael Fayne. I think it sounds more ‘hi-fi’. See what you think.
\r\n“Peace Vibration” (sometimes known as “Sandman”) was, again, created with the help on Tim Gordine. We never managed to get a good mix of the demo, but I managed to pull off a couple of remixes, which are quite entertaining. The track never made it on to the album.
\r\n“Sensation” is a bit of an oddity! Our manager rediscovered this strange little track quite recently. It didn’t make it on to the album, but we all like it for it’s quirky nature. You might recognize the opening lyrics from “Fever”. We always like to ‘recycle’ where possible!
\r\nWe will be adding to this album as and when we come across interesting material. It’s amazing how many things get left behind on an album project!

The mix seems to have been either recorded, or broacast, on XFM on the 14th July 2001 Edit: 14th September 2001, according to the handwritten CD/cover by Jon Fugler.
This has brought to light one further problematic aspect of the site here, though. While we host Fluke live performances (usually very low quality and different to the recorded versions) purely in the hope that they interest fans who have already bought the music (and are relying on Jon and the gang not to sue us!), doing the same for a DJ mix no longer seems tenable. I have, therefore, removed previous DJ mixes from the Files page and will not be posting this one. Sorry if that’s a disappointment (it’s a great mix!), but hope you all understand.
\r\nEdit: update. Jon Fugler recommended MixCloud as a service that will allow mixes to be embedded, but also one that pays royalties to artists through the PRS. They seem legit, so I have uploaded the mix there in good faith that this complies with all licensing agreements.

\r\nFirst off, Frank has a promotional CD-R containing various mixes from Meccano Mind. I’ve labeled this, in the absence of any defining title, “Extended sampler” and it’s an 11-track entry featuring mixes of Pray, Bliss and Message.
\r\nSecondly, Frank sent me a scan of the CD and cover sleeve for the Meccano Mind Instrumentals promo, which is now available to view.

As a result, I contacted Jon Fugler of Fluke/The Lucky Monkeys, asking if he could confirm its validity. He did that, and more. It turns out that the female vocals are by none other than Björk!
\r\nSo, without further ado, here’s the history of the track Bjango.
\r\n\r\n\r\nWell, story, long, where to begin…
\r\nWe were at Real World Studios for their recording week, ’95 I think, where all the artists from Womad get together and record, as everyone is in the country from far flung places and RW has loads of space to work it makes a lot of sense.
\r\nAnyway, not that productive for us but we did get this amazing piece by a berimbau recorded, weird instrument, sounds like Rez on a stick.
\r\nWe were asked to do a mix for Björk the following year, track was Hyperballad, OLI wanted something big, progressive and Fluke like, unsurprisingly, so we duly delivered, using the berimbau from RealWorld. Björk wasn’t so convinced by our mix, so we did another one, halftime, which she loved and was duly used, this is one of my favorite mixes we did.
\r\nSo, what to do with the original, we chatted and decided there would be no harm in releasing a cheeky white label of say 1000 copies and with the tacit agreement of OLI this is what we did, this is what I think you have, just can’t remember the colour. Well, 1000 quickly became 3000 and we were then approached by Hi-Life for a release, which we did, with pleasure, although still signed to Circa. Everyone was so much more relaxed in the 90′s….
\r\nAs for Björk……. well, there was a comedy meeting at an MTV party, small ballistic Icelandic diva told me in no uncertain terms that all we had to do “was fucking ask”!
\r\nThere you go, it was sort of “collaborative” just not everyone knew they were collaborating.

This is a post to highlight a newly unearthed discography item, thanks to 2bitpie.net reader Bertie. I received an email a few weeks ago in which Bertie stated:
\r\n\r\n\r\nI was looking at your discography because I have been a fan of Fluke for a long time. I wonder if you can help me: I have a white vinyl, single sided 12” with Bjango written on it but it doesn’t appear on your discography.
\r\n
This was intriguing and I originally utterly misread the email and set a confused reply thinking it was the “white label”, not a white vinyl of the track Bjango by The Lucky Monkeys which, as most readers will know, is one of Fluke’s many aliases. After some cross-purpose discussion, I eventually forwarded the email to jUSTIN cREDIBLE who identified this as a different recording altogether. After a week or so (a surprisingly short time), I was able to track down a copy of this edition. It is, indeed, a single-sided 12″ white vinyl that looks like this.
\r\nAs you can see, the label features a handwritten statement of “Bjango” followed by the signature “F” of Fluke spelled in Xs:
\r\nXXX\r\nXX\r\nX\r\n\r\n
The mix itself is previously unknown. I originally mistook it for the Original Mix, but again was corrected by jUSTIN:
\r\n\r\n\r\nThis version is clearly (but slightly) different to the Original Mix.

The part which starts at 02:50 min – 03:32 min does not exist in the CD/ Vinyl Original version.
For those curious, here’s a sample which includes the portion not previously heard: Bjango White Vinyl sample. We’ll try and get this incorporated into the discography as soon as possible.
\r\nA word of thanks to user Waldemarus, who has drawn our attention to the still preserved archive of the Fluke Message Board at (edit: 2026 the now defunct) http://special.the-raft.com/fluke/message.html. For preservation purposes, we present a (very ugly) mirror.
\r\nThe record, from the 1997-1998 period, conveys the enthusiasm felt for the group throughout, with many mentions of excited concert ticket acquisitions, hard to find promos and worldwide availability. Here was one post I particularly liked:

In addition to many posts praising the group, it also provides an interesting source of information to follow up on our historical project, for instance:

\r\nAs an update from my previous post, Mike Tournier has given permission for a one minute sample clip from the Thorns and Roses promotional CD to be posted: Thorns and Roses sample MP3.
\r\nThe sample is now also available on the discography page.
\r\nIn addition, Mike gave me some more information about this version of the track, as opposed to the version that will appear on the album:
\r\n\r\n\r\nThis is still considered to be a remix of “thorns”. The original slow version has been mixed properly, and will appear on the album.

I’m still unclear as to what the distribution channels will be for this release, but will let you know as soon as possible so you can all snatch up your own copies.
\r\nWell, I had a rather nice evening today when the new Mike Tournier and Jan Burton Promo CD — Thorns and Roses — arrived in the post! Here are some obligatory shots of the cover and so forth:

The CD itself is a one track promo running to 6 minutes and 7 seconds and is utterly different to the promo version that made its MySpace debut a year or so ago. It is far more “dancey”, for want of a better word, and I think that those who prefer this side of Mike Tournier and Jan Burton's work won’t be disappointed. That said, it still maintains the mellow quality so suited to Jan Burton’s voice. I will be adding this to the discography, but won’t be posting any sample clips until cleared with Mike T. It also appears that the website featured on the CD cover isn't working as the domain name suffix isn’t up yet.
